Description
A CD with a seasonal selection of Victorian carols and readings from Dickens to set the festive mood. Published in 1843, Charles Dickens’ (181270) ‘A Christmas Carol in Prose: Being a Ghoststory of Christmas’ was a runaway success and by 1849 Dickens was giving readings as a popular part of Yuletide entertainment. This CD mixes 13 Victorian revived and popular carols with 6 readings from ‘A Christmas Carol’. Carols include ‘The First Nowell’, ‘Sussex Carol’, ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’, ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ and ‘It Came Upon a Midnight Clear’. Performed by the Choir of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge with readings by Professor Sir Gabriel Horn.
