Description
‘Here we come awassailing among the leaves so green. Here we come awassailing, so fair to be seen: love and joy come to you and to you your wassail too, and God bless you and send you, a happy New Year, and God send you, a happy New Year’. Traditional, handmade and decorated in England: 8 favourite tippleflavours in milk, dark and white chocolate truffles and cups. Flavours include gin and lemon, whisky, prosecco and raspberry, champagne, Malibu and rum truffles; and gin and lemon, and raspberry and prosecco cups. An AngloSaxon custom of the New Year, the ‘wassail’ was a toast from a local leader or dignitary: ‘waes hael’ (‘wishing you good health’), answered by ‘drink hael’ (‘drink well’). Traditionally accompanied by songs and a mulled ale drink the singing is thought to be the origin of doortodoor carol singing at Christmas.
