Museum Selection Soft Italian Nougat
Description
A traditional Italian Christmas dessert: finest quality Italian nougat in 4 varieties; studded with chocolate, nuts, exotic and forest fruit pieces. Cut into generous chunks and with a soft and chewy texture. Deriving from the Latin panis nucatus, meaning nut bread, nougat is thought to have been eaten by the Romans as cupedia. This brittle confection seems to have evolved through many local recipes and textures, possibly also with the influence of the Moors, across medieval Europe. White nougat known as torrone (and meaning toasted) became an Italian speciality, with many regional variations; particularly favoured as a medieval dessert marking Christmas. Presented in a festive box with ribbon trim.
