Dimensions of each: (15 x 15 x 21) cm. (6 x 6 x 8'3) inches. Weight both: 180 gr. Two pumpkins of the Pilgrim. They were used in the pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago. By its appearance it seems to be a pumpkin of the nineteenth century. Later, perhaps in the years 60-70, they were painted for decorative use. On the Camino de Santiago the pumpkin was part of the basic equipment of the medieval pilgrim and, in many cases, of the following centuries. Its objective was to maintain a constant supply of water, wine or a mixture of water & wine that the pilgrim received from some welfare entities - as in the hospital of Roncesvalles - or acquired on his own. To turn it into a container, the pumpkin was emptied of seeds & dried to harden its woody & impermeable skin.
