At one point in the 19th century it was owned by Louis XVIII’s prime minister, while in 1999, the d’Aulan family – former owners of Champagne’s Piper-Heidieck house – purchased the estate. Château Sansonnet’s 7.3 hectare vineyard, which lies just to the east of Saint-Emilion village, is planted with 85% Cabernet Sauvignon – the rest made up of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The terroir here includes thin clay and limestone soils over the typically chalky Saint-Emilion plateau. Winemaking is overseen by consultants Michel Rolland and Jean-Luc Thunevin. Grapes are cold soaked for a week, then gravity-fed to a mix of traditional oak tanks and modern temperature-controlled steel vats for fermentation over 28 days. The wine is matured in French oak barrels (70% new) for 16 months., Grape variety: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, Country of origin:France, Region:Bordeaux, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, More information: Bottle size:750 ml, Alcohol content:13 %, Alcohol units per bottle:9.8, Alcohol units per serving:1.6, Serving Size:125 ml, Allergens:Sulphites, Stopper type:Cork, Bottling address: Château Sansonnet, Bordeaux, France
