Description
A compact variety with short spires, Verbascum ‘Dark Eyes’ (Mullein) is a fantastic addition to the front of a border or for displaying in patio containers and helping to create the quintessential cottage garden look. During the summer months, the upright stems produce a beautiful show of lemon-yellow flowers, each with a striking burgundy eye for contrast. The upright flower spikes and stocky habit make this low-maintenance variety a great choice for a small space as well as for introducing a vertical accent into a planting scheme without becoming too tall.Plant Mullein into well drained, neutral or alkaline soil in full sun. Verbascum will thrive on poor, gravelly soils.Established Verbascum plants require little maintenance. Deadhead faded flower spikes to encourage more verbascum flowers to be produced. On very fertile soils, verbascum will grow larger in size and the tall flower stems may require staking with garden canes. Cut back the old stems at the base of the plant in autumn.Position: Full SunHeight: Up to 30cm when fully establishedSpread:Up to 30cm when fully establishedSupplied as 2 x Verbascum ‘Dark Eyes’ plant in a 2 litre potImages shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity.
