Description
A fabulous specimen tree, Japanese Alpine Maple (Prunus nipponica ‘Brilliant’) is a beautiful and very hardy variety which will grow well in most locations. It’s compact size and low maintenance nature makes this a particularly good choice for small gardens, large containers or as a focal point over a rockery. In spring, this lovely little tree erupts into a fabulous flurry of pink-tinged white blooms covering its bare branches, before unusual rust-coloured leaves begin to emerge. Into summer the leaves turn to a traditional green colour, then you can expect another excellent show of colour in autumn when the leaves change again to shades or red, orange and yellow.Plant cherry trees in any moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Incorporate plenty of compost or well-rotted manure prior to planting. Choose a final position in full sun.Water Prunus trees regularly until fully established. Ornamental cherries require little aftercare. Simply remove any diseased, damaged or crossing shoots to maintain a healthy framework. When pruning cherries it is preferable to wait until midsummer to avoid the risk of ‘silver leaf’ infection. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant in spring, taking care not to mound mulch up against the stem.Position: Full Sun/Partial ShadeHeight: Up to 3m when fully establishedSpread: Up to 2m when fully establishedSupplied as 1 x Prunus nipponica ‘Brilliant’ plant in a 3.6 litre pot.Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary results. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
