The centre of each blooms is deep velvet red, looking like an ink blot and diffusing gently outwards. Potentilla thurberi 'Monarch's Velvet' flowers over a long period, from June to September. An absolute ‘must have’ plant for the perennial border and cottage garden. Height: 45cm. Spread: 60cm.Sow in good seed compost from late winter to mid-summer, just covering the seed with compost. Sealing the container inside a polythene bag after sowing is beneficial. Germination takes 14-30 days at 18-20C (65-70F). Seed sown early will often produce flowers the same season.
