Tate Stanislawa De Karlowska 'Swiss Cottage' Wood Framed Print & Mount
Description
A framed print of London's 'Swiss Cottage', exhibited in 1914, by post-impressionist Stanislawa De Karlowska. From the Tate collection. Made in the UK exclusively for John Lewis. The black frame is made of FSC-certified solid ayous wood, sourced from sustainably managed forests. Framed with a card mount and glass front, it arrives ready to hang on your wall. Unable to join the Camden Town Group, a male-only exhibiting body, in 1914 Stanislawa De Karlowska (1876-1952) was elected to its successor, the London Group. Her modern post-impressionist style and bright colours relate closely to 'Camden Town' painting, but Karlowska was also inspired by her Polish heritage: the flat perspectives, intense colours, elongated figures and dream-like atmosphere being resonant of Eastern European folk art.
