Description
A set of 2 handmade antique silver tone metal spoons with interesting engraved design. Great for serving chutneys, relishes, preserves, jam & so on. They are not a matching set. Over 100 years old. English Cutlery Craftsmanship at its finest. One silver plated spoon has an amazing design on the spoon bowl & is signed on the back with "WP, B, Rd". Measures 15cm (5 7/8 in) long & 3.5 cm (1 3/8 in) at the widest part. This is a trade mark & was used by William Page & Co of Birmingham. Used on its electroplated items. Silver plate or electroplate is formed when a thin layer of pure or sterling silver is deposited electrolytically on the surface of a base metal (usually nickel silver). Silver plated cutlery will display that same "warm" patina appearance that silver cutlery. The other has a splayed scalloped design at the end & an interesting handle. This would have been hand cut by the craftsmen making the spoon. Signed on the back with FHS with a little logo depicting an Archer’s target. This is the mark of Francis Howard, a Sheffield cutler who used this mark between 1870 & 1874. Measures 14.5 cm (5 5/8 in) long & 3.75 cm (1 1/2 in) at the widest part. Both antique spoons are in excellent condition with no rust. The Francis Howard spoon looks as if one end of the spoon bowl has been slightly dented & some wear to the silver plate - part of its history. Both are solid, stable & perfectly usable. There may be wear consistent with normal use as these are pre loved cutlery items. Please view photos for condition. A wonderful vintage serving items to collect & use at meal times to impress your friends. Ideal for period homes & country kitchens. Note for ETSY customers All of the listings in my shop are for pre-owned items. Many will show some signs of wear due to their age. There may be slight surface scratching or wear consistent with normal use.
