(Any queries from the EU, please don't hesitate to get in touch) Here is a very pretty 1970s pendant necklace - a gold-plated heart with a large faux pearl & tiny crystal diamanté accents, threaded onto a very long fine rope chain. This measures 60.5cms (24") in length, & has secure ring-clasp fastening. The diamanté pendant measures 2.7cms long x 1.8cms wide (that's just over 1" x 3/4"). It also has the rectangular wedge-shaped brand tag with the hole for the ring-bolt clasp to fasten to, & signed with the Avon brand logo. If you'd prefer a shorter chain, the pendant comes off the chain by opening a latch-hook at the back, so you can easily swap it for a shorter & more modern alternative if you so desire A timeless design & an elegant little statement piece, this would make a fantastic present for a girlfriend's birthday or Valentine's Day perhaps, or maybe a great Christmas gift for that special lady in your life !! How about a surprise for your mum on Mother's Day... AVON Back in 1886, David H. McConnell was a travelling book salesman who founded Avon after realizing his female customers were far more interested in the free perfume samples he offered than in his books !! He had also noticed that many of his female customers were isolated at home while their husbands went off to work. So he purposely recruited female sales reps as he believed they had a natural ability to network with & market to other women, & a passion for his products. At a time of limited employment options for women, the Avon earnings opportunity was a revolutionary concept. in 1886, direct selling at Avon represented a means for women to earn their own money at a time when not many women worked outside the home. Historically, the whole premise of Avon’s business had been door-to-door selling. So in the 1970s, when women were working & not at home, the Advance Call Back brochure was developed - a brochure that could be left on a doorknob & included samples. The mail order catalogue was born !! AVON JEWELLERY By the 1960s, perfume was only one of the company's many offerings; cosmetics, bath products, housewares & gifts had been added to the catalogues. in 1971, jewellery became a notable addition to the Avon catalogue & soon, costume jewellery would be one of the company's most popular lines. By the 1980s, Avon's reputation for offering high-quality yet affordable costume jewellery began to attract notable designers to the line, & it's their costume jewellery that has become particularly highly sought after. So, although mass production means that many Avon pieces are quite easy to find, the collaborations with designer Kenneth Jay Lane & actress Elizabeth Taylor are not only rarer but can also fetch a high price.
