CIRCUS CAROUSEL TINSEL FILLED ANTIQUE BLOWN UNSILVERED GLASS ORNAMENT Fabulous antique ornament. Thin glass & very lightweight. Colors still bright & strong even though obviously some paint loss. Metal cap is rusty, but likely hand crafted in the late 1800's to early 1900's in Lauscha, Germany. Unsilvered Merry-Go-Round with a Silver Tinsel Sprig inside German Glass Christmas Tree Ornament. Merry-Go-Round itself is blown of clear glass. Lacquered pale yellow / gold wash circus top with white stripes down to a bright pink stripe over merry-go-round. The middle is clear glass, with yellow garland bands on the pink above, & yellow bars separating animals. Alternating Elephants & lions in white are the animals on the merry go round (pictures show all 4 sides). Tinsel spray inside. Great strong hand painted colors. Makes a real statement when on the tree. 2.8H & in very good condition. This was often a cottage industry, a means for the Germans to make money during the winter when they could not work in the fields. The sons & fathers blew the ornaments. The girls & mom would silver the ornaments inside, & then individually paint the ornaments, & grandma would take to the train station in the spring when the others were back in the fields. Then they went to the sea coast, put on ships, & arrived in New York to be delivered across the country, & we used them to decorate our trees. The origin is Lauscha, Germany. Approx. 2.8H x 2.25Diameter. Some paint loss. Metal cap is rusty. Please see pictures for details. They are an important part of the description.
