This collar is the ideal size for larger dog breeds (i.e. Larger Lurchers, Deerhound, greyhound, saluki). The Small sized Martingale collar again is available in 2 widths: 4cm (1 ) or 5cm (2) & adjusts from approx 22cm (9) up to 32cm (13) again with the additional 7cm (3) in the webbing section . This collar is the ideal size for smaller hounds (i.e. Whippets, & smaller Lurchers). Due to the larger print/ format of the fabric, some designs are NOT available in the 4cm width. PLEASE NOTE - Your finished collar may vary from the photo shown due to pattern placement of the cut of the fabric. The fabric collars are sewn over polypropylene webbing for strength & structure . stitched with high quality Gutermann thread , & also lined for your dogs comfort. They have a webbing section for leash attachment. They are finished with nickel plated steel hardware. Martingale collars are traditionally designed for sighthounds because their necks are larger than their heads meaning they can often slip out of a buckle collar. It consists of a large loop & a smaller loop. When the dog tries to pull, the tension will pull the small loop taunt, making the larger loop smaller & tighten around the neck, which helps prevent the dog escaping by backing out of their collar, & without the choking effect of the standard slip collar. As they are wider collars they are much more comfortable for a sighthound's long narrow neck. A properly fitted martingale will fit snuggly around the dog's neck, just behind the ears, until the pressure is released. It will be comfortably loose when not in use. The two D rings at the back should never touch when the collar is pulled tight , if they do, this means the collar is too loose! To Measure your Dog For A Collar You will need a flexible dressmakers tape measure or a peice of non-stretch ribbon or tape that you can then measure with a ruler. The collars need to be slipped over the hound's head as they are non-opening) therefore the first measurement you will need is your hound's head circumference , this is the measurement around the widest part of the head over the crown, under the chin & back. For martingales you will then need to know the measurement of the narrowest part of the neck, high up behind the ears. This measurement is the one you use to pick your martingale - the addition of the martingale section in the collar (the narrow webbing loop) is usually sufficient to allow for fitting for sighthound breeds. If you need advice picking the right size collar for your hound just message me with these three measurements & I will be happy to help! Any questions
