We paid a visit recently to the home of metalwork masters here in the UK, namely Sheffield in South Yorkshire. We have been wanting to go for ages, & the opportunity arose unexpectedly, so we packed & ran! Sheffield is known worldwide for its master metal workers, cutlery, silversmiths & pewterers. This beautiful two handled pewter loving cup was the first item we bought in an Emporium in the city. Made under the Association of British Pewter Craftsmen, this beautiful tankard was indeed made in Sheffield - we were thrilled. The loving cup also has an engraved logo, 'DD 1778 - 1978'. If anyone knows what the inscription means, could they let us know as it is driving us mad! The metal is gently pitted, but in perfect order to use as a drinking vessel. The tankard will be wrapped in tissue, it box padded with unused fish & chip paper for a safe journey to its new home. We are proud that we use minimal plastic packaging now.
