A beautiful antique print, Afterwards Columbine, published in 1878 in a British weekly illustrated newspaper that had tremendous influence in the art world, with many admirers, among them, Vincent van Gogh. (The publication & precise date information appear on the print but is not shown in the photos.) The scene shows actors playing the roles of Harlequin & Columbine (and the Clown in the background) in the Harlequinade, a type of theatrical performance piece dating back to Italy in the 16th century. The story revolves around the lives of its five main characters: Harlequin, Pierrot, Columbine, Clown, & Pantaloon. Size: approx. 11 inches x 16 inches (27.94 cm x 40.64 cm). With printing en verso.
