Have nothing in your home that you don't know to be useful or believe to be beautiful William Morris Marvellous Machin & Co Teacup & Saucer has a gold coloured ground, fronds & scrolls with lots of gilding. The pattern number 726 is hand painted on base. Joseph Machin & Co was a manufacturer of Porcelain at Burslem. Joseph Machin Born on 8th July 1770, like his father John Machin was a master potter. When his father died in 1789, his will departed from norm of leaving his entire wealth & assets to his fifth wife Elizabeth rather than to any or one of his three sons. When she died in 1800 she left everything to her youngest son Joseph. By 1793 Joseph Machin is listed as an Enameller of Burslem. in 1829 Simon Shaw wrote that in Burslem the next manufacturer to Enoch Wood was Joseph Machin & Co. The dimensions are 5 7/8 wide for the saucer, 3 1/2 wide & 2 7/8 tall for the teacup. Considering the age the duo is in great antique condition, some minor gilt loss as captured on photos. This collection belonged to a British Pottery expert who passionately curated & researched thousands of pieces from the mid 1750 to the early 1900.
