Description
This sweet cup started out on my wheel here in my Pittsboro studio. It is just over 2.5 inches tall, & holds 4 oz. It is glazed with an experimental crystalline glaze, & the inside of the cup is glazed with a rich tenmoku glaze. This glaze was really hard to photograph well, but it is mostly deep dark blue with some rich brown & black tones. All of the crystalline glazes that I use are original glazes invented myself. Each crystalline glazed piece is unique in that they cannot be duplicated. The crystals are never the same from one piece to another. I use high fire porcelain, & fire to a peak temperature of 2350oF - aka cone 11. What this means is that the porcelain is fully vitrified & watertight even without the glazes. Because of the way that I fire & the glazes that I use, all of my work is fully functional - watertight, lead free, dishwasher safe, & microwave safe.
