Have nothing in your home that you don't know to be useful or believe to be beautiful William Morris c1831 Coalport Adelaide Porcelain Cup & Saucer finely hand painted with gold tendrils & scroll on white ground & opulent gilding. The pattern number 4/306 is hand painted on the base. Coalport was one of the leading Potters of iconic designs in the 19th & 20th century. The Pottery emerged around the 1800 in Shropshire right on the edge of Staffordshire which other leading Potteries such as Minton, Spode, Davenport & many others had established. It was made in the famous Adelaide Shape - named after Queen Adelaide wife of King William IV, a beloved Auntie of Queen Victoria who succeeded William in 1837. Considering the age, this stunning duo is in excellent condition with the exception of tiny nibble on the base of the saucer. Very minimal loss of gilt trim. Please study the photos carefully. The dimensions are 6 for the saucer, the teacup is 2 1/2 tall & 3 1/4 wide. This magnificent collection belonged to an expert of 1750 - 1900 British Potteries, which he lovingly collected, catalogued & researched for over 50 + years.
