Description
The latest Blizzard Zero G 95 takes everything good about the old model and builds on it to make what is possibly the most versatile touring and freeskiing model you will find. The Carbon Drive 3.0 has been tweaked to create slightly less rigidity in the tip and tail to improve control, without affecting stability or weight which was already at the lighter end of the scale for this width of ski. Downhill performance still comfortably matches or beats its competitors. Tip and tail rocker and a 95mm waist ensure all conditions are dealt with equally well. Carbon Reinforcement and a light paulownia wood core create a responsive, precise feel without being heavy. Terrain Type & Ability Level Terrain Type Everything that you can climb up to, from flowing powder fields to steep, icy technical descents. 95mm in the waist is a good all-rounder, tip and tail rocker suits firm or soft snow and the Carbon Drive 3.0 Construction offers precision for firm conditions without over stiffening the ski. It really is at home all over the mountain. Skier Type Good all condition skiers who demand the very best downhill performance from a lightweight model. This the ski that has been to the top of Lhotse in the Himalayas and skied an epic couloir back down. It’s not going to disappoint. Overview Shape A directional shape with tip and tail rocker means predictable handling in any condition. 95mm in the waist is narrow enough to remain nimble and quick edge-to-edge and there’s plenty of width when you do find softer or deeper snow and want some width underfoot. The 22m radius (178cm) sounds long and does provide a super stable feel, helping the ski track cleanly whatever the snow condition, but thanks to tip and tail rocker the ski is super easy to manoeuvre too. Rocker Pro Tip and Tail Rocker ensures smooth turning with effortless initiation and hassle-free release whatever the conditions. The camber underfoot provides the grip and energy to deal with firmer conditions and more aggressive skiing. Core An ultra-lightweight paulownia woodcore helps keep the weight down without affecting the overall performance. Carbon Reinforcements and Carbon Drive 3.0 improves edge grip whilst keeping the ski light. Construction The Carbon Drive 3.0 Construction uses a 3D uni-directional carbon fibre frame to keep weight to a minimum whilst providing good torsional stiffness. A mix of sidewall underfoot for great grip and precision, with more cap at the tip and tail to provide durability and forgiveness, ensures good all-round handling. Key Features Carbon Drive 3.0 Construction The integration of a 3D uni-directional carbon fibre frame with an ultra-lightweight paulownia woodcore construction reduces the weight in the ski while providing structure for performance. The carbon frame’s 3D geometry guarantees optimal flex and torsional rigidity, with this new construction providing more forgiveness in the tip and tail. The result is a level of stability, edge grip and control unprecedented in the world of ski mountaineering. Carbon Reinforcement Two edge to edge layers of bi-directional carbon fibre are positioned in the binding mounting areas to improve binding retention and torsional strength. EB tester’s comments: Mark (Trainer) Light on the way up for efficient touring, but surprisingly stiff and precise on the way back down. Plenty of power to punch through cruddy conditions, a ton of grip on ice and wide enough to deal with most conditions.
