Description
Armada aren't known for using metal in their constructions preferring more playful characteristics to shine, but with the Declivity range they are changing that very successfully. Thanks to a clever build using Titanal with cut-out sections, the 92 Ti has the performance on hard snow which doesn't affect the handling in soft conditions. Precision carves can be locked down but, because it isn't as stiff as other skis with metal, it keeps that playful feel, helping make this one of the best all mountain skis we've ridden.Terrain Type & Ability LevelTerrain Type All mountain, so everything from pistes to powder, bumps, trees and steeps. It has qualities that make it shine in all the conditions. Grip, precision and energy on firmer snow; float and smoothness in soft snow; stability and balance for mixed terrain and variable conditions. Yes, it is that good. At 92 it favours firmer snow and mixed conditions, though it will easily handle fresh snow. If powder is your main aim then its bigger brother, the 102, is the model to look at with its extra float, but you will lose some of the nimbleness that makes the 92 so special.Skier TypeThe fact that ski feels so good means it has a very broad appeal. Intermediates will enjoy the balance and the smooth predictable handling, giving them confidence to explore and push their limits. Advanced skiers will value the same attributes as well as appreciating the grip and precision when skiing faster and trickier terrain. Lighter experts will also enjoy the ski as it has everything they want, without requiring tonnes of power to drive it.OverviewShapeThis is a modern all mountain ski so the width hits the sweet spot of 90-94mm. Still quick edge to edge and retaining the float. The tip has plenty of taper as it blends into the widest part of the ski, providing a smooth initiation, helped by the rocker and clever Articulated Titanal Banding tech (more below). Its shape works especially well with the build to create a ski that is responsive on piste, but stable and forgiving off.RockereST All Mtn Rocker pairs rocker with a tapered sidecut in both the tip and the tail to provide floatation in soft snow as well as forgiveness. Camber underfoot maintains edge hold on hard pack.CoreArmada's Caruba Core is their lightest core but retains the power and dampness required to descend the gnarliest of terrain. It uses caruba, a wood that is lighter than poplar without losing energy or durability. This is reinforced with Titanal in a build called Articulated Titanal Banding, improving the power and, unlike regular metal sheets, doesn't over-stiffen the ski.ConstructionWith AR100 Sidewalls Armada are using full length vertical sidewalls, something they haven't done for a long time. This construction improves precision and edge hold.Key FeaturesArticulated Titanal BandingTitanal adds horsepower to the ski with uncompromising performance, acting as a shock absorber and quietening chatter to give unparalleled stability and confidence at speed. To make sure this doesn't over-stiffen the ski and make steering difficult it has vertical cut-outs at the tip and tail. These are filled with an elastic Compound Layer that allows the ski to enter the turn with ease during the turn this compound compresses so that the Articulated Titanal Banding releases more energy than a traditional Ti layer.2.5 Impact edgeOversized and specially heat treated, this edge is built to resist impact damage in the most demanding situations.Comp Series BaseSintered UHMW polyethylene with added carbon, aids speed and durability.eB tester’s comments: Luke (Buying Team) I used them in mixed conditions, they gripped on hardpack and the nose shape worked really well through the soft spring snow. They felt full of energy, responsive and fast but not difficult to ski.Technical SpecificationsSize (cm)Tip Width (mm)Waist Width (mm)Tail Width (mm)Radius (m)Weight (g)172131921171717251801329211817.5182518813392119181925General InformationSkier Ability: Advanced/expertTerrain Type: All Mountain Rocker: Tip/Tail RockerRadius: MediumBase: SinteredBindings: Ski sold flatDIN: n/aConstruction: Full SidewallCore: Wood, Titanal LaminateDemo: YesSizing Description: Nose level to forehead height is ideal, but longer length is important if there is a bigger rocker or you're spending more time off piste where the extra stability and float a larger size provides will be beneficial.
