The 202 Clincher 700C Rear Wheel from Zipp is all about aiming higher. They have taken the legendary climbers companion 202 tubular wheel, and transformed a classic into a stiff, lightweight and aerodynamic Carbon Clincher speed weapon ideal for every road you travel. The wheel still uses a 32mm deep rim like its tubular predecessor, however is now laced on to the maintenance free 177 rear hub. The 177 rear hub features best-in-class durability and improved bearing protection with newly designed quick release skewers. The hub also has optimized flange geometry and a spoke hole attachment pattern with Sapim CX Sprint spokes to optimize torsional and lateral stiffness and robustness. This rear hub has also been designed to be easily able to swap driver bodies without the need to re-dish the wheel. Available with either a Shimano or Campagnolo compatible freehub body. The Firecrest Carbon Clincher rim have a near-constant width from brake track to spoke bed which improves aerodynamics and allows for better control of airflow. The Zipp engineers used Computational Fluid Dynamics software analysis to maximize aerodynamics and minimize wind-produced torque which resulted in the 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher being faster and better handling than a classic road wheel. Zipp's Firecrest rim shape improves stability by moving the wheel's centre of pressure to sit almost directly over the steering axis, where wind-produced steering torque has a minimal effect. Add to that Zipp's Carbon Clincher technology such as their exclusive resin, which is based on materials used in motorsports braking systems which effectively tolerates the incredible spikes in heat caused by braking to provide unrivalled reliability and confidence inspiring stopping power.
