Description
Cheery hedges produce impressive floral shows from dense foliage. Displaying a thicket of rich green leaves and hooked thorns during spring and summer, Dog Rose hedges are great deterrents, while also forming a screen against incoming wind and noise. Summertime brings pale pink to white flowers, which coat the hedges with beauty and fill the air with a floral aroma. By autumn, the flowers evolve into bright red rose hips, containing the seeds of the plant. Recommended by the RHS as ‘Plants for Pollinators’, a dense habit creates a perfect shelter for wildlife, while the rose hips are delicious to birds. Hardy natured to grow well even in coastal locations, while withstanding extremely cold wintery conditions and strong winds. These hardy hedges can be planted in most soil types, if kept moist and well-drained.For best results, plant in a spot of the garden that will receive full sun, although Dog Rose can still thrive in partial shade. These fast-growing plants, with up to 60cm of growth per year, reach a good garden height of around 4m.
