The metal is recycled sterling silver with recycled 18k gold vermeil, the post is hypoallergenic, and the gold will last a long time as the only place it touches the skin is behind the stud. Care should be taken with all natural gemstone jewellery, not to knock or drop the piece as a stone may be damaged or fall out. All gold vermeil will eventually wear off, and the more often it is worn the more quickly it will come off. But as this is a full micron of 18k gold vermeil, this should not happen for a long time.
