Description
Vitra Stool Brown/Beige Cork. Dimensions: Ø 31 x H 33 cm. The works of the famous British designer Jasper Morrison reflect his "super normal" design philosophy: Instead of looking for unusual solutions, Morrison takes tried and tested designs and gives them a new identity by reinterpreting, developing and refining them. To serve the object, he follows in the footsteps of the Viennese of the early 20th century, such as Adolf Loos, the Italian rationalists, and his British elder Robin Day, who, like him, always sought to perfect the best rather than create new products. In 2004, for his Cork Family stool collection, Jasper Morrison chose to use turned, untreated cork: a natural, ecological and durable material. No glue is used for shaping it. Rarely used in furniture making, cork is now going through a comeback in the world of design and architecture because it is recyclable and can be harvested without harming the tree from which it grows. Incredibly tactile, cork is also soundproof, fireproof and water resistant. The Cork Family stools benefit from the properties of cork: they are relatively light, extremely durable and soft to the touch. These stools evoke bottle corks and are sculptural, minimalist and expressive. The massive silhouettes emphasize the natural beauty of the cork. The different forms follow each other like an alphabet, forming a kind of silent speech.
