Made for his exhibition at the Galerie Maeght in 1973, the 'Sobre Teixims' or 'About Textiles' original lithograph poster is by Joan Miró. This reproduction is presented in a contemporary black box frame, ready to wall hang.
Joan Miró was born April 20, 1893 in Barcelona and died December 25, 1983 in Palma de Majorca. A Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramicist, he is considered one of the major exponents of modern art. Attracted by the artistic community in Montparnasse, Paris, he encountered the Dada movement in 1920. In 1924, under the influence of surrealist poets and writers, he created his unique style: floating coloured signs and poetic forms, false naivety and fresh invention infused with the exuberant and baroque Catalan spirit.
André Breton described Miró as "the most surrealist of all of us." Miró expressed his provocative contempt for painting (at least what is conventionally considered painting) and his desire to kill it and to assassinate it in favour of new modes of expression in numerous writings and interviews during the 1930s. He participated in the Surrealist Exposition of 1947 at the Maeght Gallery, which would thereafter exhibit his works every year and become his exclusive gallery, editor and printer. In 1954, Joan Miró won the printmaking prize at the Venice Biennale art festival and he introduced Aimé Maeght to Josep Lluis Sert, who conceived of the architecture for the Maeght Foundation in Saint Paul in the south of France. He created illustrations, lithographs and monumental sculptures for the Maeght Foundation.
