Description
Snake's Head Fritillary is a beautiful native wildflower with white pendant blooms heavily chequered with pink, plum or purple. you’ll love the beautiful, bell-shaped, nodding blooms, which measure up to 4cm. Snake's Head Fritillary can be grown in grass and often self-seeds to make delightful, naturalised drifts of nodding bells – it’s also perfect for growing in patio pots. This hardy flower plant has won an RHS Award of Garden Merit for its garden performance.Fritillaria meleagris thrives in the reliably moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting to improve less than ideal soils. Plant snakes head fritillary bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4") and 10cm (4") apart. Fritillary bulbs are fragile so always handle them with care. Planting them on their sides will help to avoid water collecting in their hollow crowns and prevent the bulbs from rotting. For natural looking drifts of fritillary flowers, gently cast the bulbs across the planting area and plant them where they land!Product specifications:Position: Sun or Semi-ShadeHeight: Up to 30cm when fully establishedSpread: Up to 8cm when fully establishedSupplied as 1x packet Snake's Head Fritillary (approx. 25 seeds)Flowering period: April to MayImages shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity.
