Light up your garden with this spectacular colour-changing Salvia ‘Hot Lips’. Part of the popular ‘Lips’ series of hardy salvias, these compact shrubby plants are drought tolerant and low maintenance, flowering profusely all summer long with very little fuss. Bright red flowers appear from early summer onwards, which then develop a striking red and white bicolour as they age, before completely white towards the end of the season. Often flowers well into autumn, perfect for a sunny position in a garden border or large patio container.Pot up salvia plants into pots of free-draining compost, and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. When all risk of frost has passed and plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Plant salvias outdoors in moist, well-drained soil, and situated in a sheltered spot in full sun.Feed and water regularly until fully established. Although perennial, this Salvia will require some winter protection in all but the mildest areas of the UK. If growing it in containers, it can be moved to a cold greenhouse or conservatory over the winter months.
