Description
This early-maturing Marrow 'Green Bush' variety is beloved for its compact growth habit and abundant yields. Its attractive fruits can be harvested early as courgettes or left to mature into full-sized marrows. Perfect for stuffing, baking, or boiling, this versatile variety is also suitable for autumn storage. Standing at a height of 45cm (18”) with a spread of 90cm (35”), it's a productive addition to any garden. Supplied as 1 x packet of 20 seeds.Sow marrow seeds indoors from April to May for later transplanting, or directly sow outdoors from late May to June. In early spring, prepare the soil by incorporating plenty of well-rotted farmyard manure to enhance its structure and fertility.Indoors, sow seeds at a depth of 2.5cm (1") in individual 7.5cm (3") pots filled with free-draining, seed-sowing compost. Place them in a propagator or cover them with a plastic bag in a warm location at 20-25°C (68-77°F) until germination, which typically takes 5-7 days. Ensure that the seeds receive adequate light for germination. Once sprouted, grow the seedlings in cooler conditions until all frost risks have passed and they are ready for transplanting outdoors. Gradually acclimatize them to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting in rich, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun, spacing them 90cm (36") apart. Protect the young plants with netting or fleece to deter birds and insects. When cultivating marrows, apply a thick layer of organic mulch around the plants to retain moisture at the roots.Alternatively, directly sow marrow seeds outdoors at a depth of 2.5cm (1") and space them 90cm (36") apart. Plant 2 seeds per hole and thin out the weaker seedling after germination.
