Description
The white flowers of Thompson & Morgan Honeysuckle ‘Belgica’ gradually turn yellow with rich, red streaks and are followed by red berries. Although they mainly flower during summer, Early Dutch Honeysuckle will often produce a follow up flush of scented blooms in September and October. Much loved popular climbers, honeysuckle are famous for their sweetly-scented flowers. This vigorous, climbing Honeysuckle will cover fences and walls, and can also be grown through trees and shrubs. Plant Thompson & Morgan Honeysuckle ‘Belgica’ in sun or semi-shade, against a suitable, sturdy support such as trellis or strong wires attached to walls and pergolas, in fertile, moist, free-draining soil. Adding in plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost will help to improve poor soils. When growing Thompson & Morgan Honeysuckle in patio containers, use a soil based compost. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until fully established. Check young shoot tips regularly as honeysuckle plants are susceptible to aphid damage, particularly when grown in full sun. Prune Thompson & Morgan Honeysuckle ‘Belgica’ immediately after flowering, first removing the oldest stems, then reducing the remaining stems to restrict their vigorous growth to the available space. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Caution: harmful if eaten.
