Description
The common chive is a member of the onion family and is therefore undemanding and easy to grow, returning year after year. It will attract bees and butterflies to its little pink blooms. Chives are an essential to any herb garden and are great in potato salads, soups, and other dishes. They are ideal for planting as edging paths and borders. Grow Chives in full sun on any well drained soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil to improve its structure and fertility prior to planting. When growing herbs, ensure that they are planted within easy reach of the kitchen. Once established, chives require little aftercare. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps in spring.
