Thompson & Morgan Abelia ‘Pinky Bells’ forms a neat, tidy mound of semi-evergreen foliage that colours to rich burgundy in autumn, remaining on the plant well into winter. Extra-large pink-frosted bells give this enchanting hardy shrub a real wow factor! The oversized and lightly fragranced blooms appear from July right through to October in a spectacular display. With a beautifully bushy habit, this low growing Glossy Abelia is the perfect specimen shrub, tirelessly adding colour to the garden throughout the year. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 120cm (47"). Plant Thompson & Morgan Abelia ‘Pinky Bells’ in garden borders in any fertile, well drained garden soil, in full sun. Alternatively grow Abelia plants in patio containers using soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Feed and water container-grown plants regularly. Deadhead faded Abelia flowers to prolong the flowering season. In exposed areas or those where winters are severe, apply a deep bark mulch around the base of Glossy Abelia plants in autumn to protect the roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound mulch up against the main stem. Alternatively protect with horticultural fleece. In late spring, trim Abelia x grandiflora lightly and remove any shoots which spoil the symmetry of the plant.
