I was a great deal at Merton last week ... anxiously superintending the first printing of the Strawberry thief, which I think we shall manage this time. – William Morris in a letter to his daughter, 1883. This compact yet capacious foldaway tapestry bag has been patterned with one of the most iconic designs of the Arts & Crafts movement. Once one of the most expensive fabrics produced by Morris & Co., this tapestry bag has been woven with the "Strawberry Thief" motif, 1883. Morris was inspired to create this particular design from the sight of thrushes pinching fruit from the kitchen garden at his countryside residence, Kelmscott Manor, in Oxfordshire.
