Designed to offer an extra firm orthopaedic support, the Backcare Ultimate mattress features a traditional pocket spring interior and natural wool and cashmere fillings. The mattress benefits from a hand tufted finish; a process that passes tapes through the mattress at regular intervals and secures them on both sides with woollen tufts. Upholstered in a luxury Belgian damask fabric, the mattress boasts an interior made up of small diameter pocket springs, with each coil housed in its own cloth sleeve. This flexibility allows each spring to move freely of any neighbouring springs and provide piston-like support to the neck, hips and lower back areas; exactly where you need it most. An added feature is its side-stitched border. Side-stitching is a true craft and a labour intensive and intricate technique that takes experienced craftsmen many years to master. The process strengthens mattress perimeter and involves sewing the outer row of springs to the mattress border using a long upholstery needle and high-tension twine. This provides complete edge to edge support and prevents the mattress border from bowing out over time. It also increases the sleeping surface by 20.
