Serax Vase Yellow Glass. Dimensions: 19.4 x 17.9 x H 27 cm. The design of Silex vases required Belgian designer Sylvain Willenz to carry out a lot of research work on shapes. Viewed from above, the vases are neither actual cylinders nor squares. The faceted angles contrast deftly with the rounded glass. A shape that’s difficult to produce, comments Sylvain Willenz. The Silex vase is indeed the result of an exceptional piece of work in hand-blown glass. Managing to blow enough glass against these faceted angles requires a lot of lung capacity. It’s a problem we don’t necessarily encounter with round forms. Another big challenge is that the weight of Silex vases requires a lot of force from the glass blowers. Experienced and specialised, they can then produce vases in the proper form. The two colours (amber and smoked blue) complement each other perfectly.
