Description
East Urban Home The bronze sculptures are still created using the antique technique of lost-wax fusion. The skilled craftsman of our foundry forge these beautiful works of art following a process handed down through time. The ideas of our artists are sketched on paper, which is then used by the talented sculptors to fashion a clay model also called the "soul"" that then serves for the construction of a mould. As many wax copies are cast in the mould as are needed to create the amount of bronze sculptures desired (always a small quantity). Canals of wax are placed on these and the assembly is then immersed in a shell of terracotta called ""tonaca"" This is then heated to melt the wax which flows out of the terracotta shell. At this point, the space left by the wax is filled with melted bronze. Once solidified, the bronze is removed from the ""tonaca"" freeing the rough piece. Before this can become a beautiful sculpture, it must be sanded, detailed and prepared for the patination which is a superficial chemical process that gives the sculpture it's final colouring. You can now understand how much manual work is involved in creating these precious objects before they are ready for your home. The bronze used as a base material of the sculpture is made up mostly of copper, which is becoming more and more expensive. Therefore, by purchasing one of the ADM design creations you not only decorate your home, but you make an investment that is destined to grow with time. Each object is supplied with a certificate of craftsmanship."
