APOLOGIES FOR ANY CONFUSION Beautiful carved table with shaped legs. These tables were hand carved in Japan for Liberty & Co during the early 1900's, they were commissioned by Liberty as part of their more exotic range of antique furniture when there was fashion for everything Japanese. Please see Daryl Bennett's excellent book on Liberty's Furniture 1875-1915 Page 29 on the top right, photo of appropriate page included above They were hand carved by Japanese fishermen, made in numbered sections, (this table has the number 364 underneath both tiers) for easy packing & transportation, & assembled at the Eastern Bazaar in their Regent Street headquarters in London. There is no retailers mark but clearly a Liberty piece. This one features the scene of a dragon chasing a pearl. The pearl is associated with spiritual energy, wisdom, prosperity, power, immortality, thunder, or the moon. Japanese art often depicts a pair of dragons chasing or fighting over the flaming pearl. The table is in good condition & has a lovely colour & patina. Dimensions: 31 dia x 44cms high Please see pictures for condition Antique Carved Arts & Crafts Japanese Table From Liberty's Of London
