Includes a late­16th century portrait of King James I of England and VI of Scotland (1566­1625) aged 8 with a sparrow hawk; a Van Dyck painting from 1637 capturing Charles I"s five children with an enormous mastiff and "King Charles" spaniel; and Sir James Gunn"s 1950 "Conversation Piece" showing King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and the two Princesses with a sleeping corgi at the Royal Lodge, Windsor. 5 black and white photographs include John Brown photographed surrounded by Queen Victoria"s dogs in the 1880s, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor with a pug in 1955. 7 colour and 5 black and white illustrations, month­to­view grid. 11 ¾" square.
