Museum Selection Purple Opalescent Glass Tea Light Holder
Description
Favrile glass was a technique developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany to produce exquisite iridescent art glass in striking forms across the Art Nouveau era. Coinciding with the Belle Époque in late19th century Paris, Favrile glass was used across the decorative arts, with Tiffany developing his unique glassmaking technique to create inspired pieces. Receiving the patent for this process in 1894, Tiffany went on to win the grand prize at the 1900 Paris Exposition for his innovation. Recalling Tiffany"s stainedglass window designs from his studios in the early 20th century, our Opalescent Purple Glass Tealight has been handmade from recycled glass to create an artistic candle holder. Inspired by rare Tiffany "lava" bowls and Favrile glass ornmanets, this mouthblown glass tealight holder has been influenced by artisan techniques and master craftmanship. Based on a Favrile glass bowl created by the Tiffany Studios c.1908, this iridescent decoration captures enchanting, shifting purple hues.
