To mark the birthday of Danish designer Poul Henningsen (1894 - 1967), Louis Poulsen is launching the famous PH Artichoke pendant with the same materials and the same "Pink / Copper" finish as the original model. Originally designed in 1958 for the "Langelinie Pavillonen", a modernist restaurant in Copenhagen where it continues to delight visitors today. The legendary PH Artichoke pendant has since become a real icon. This timeless masterpiece is one of the emblematic pieces of work by Poul Henningsen, a grand figure of Danish design: it is the completion of real research on the diffusion of light. Its sculptural design expresses itself in new ways with each new finish. Six decades ago, in 1958, lighting design pioneer Poul Henningsen redefined modern lighting with groundbreaking light fittings. His reflection on how design shapes light has influenced generations of lighting designers. When Poul Henningsen designed the iconic PH Artichoke in 1958, he chose to use solid copper leaves with a pink finish on their inside. This combination gave the reflections of this organic form an exceptionally warm light emitted by an invisible light source, hidden under the slatted overlayer. This combination of colours creates a special atmosphere of togetherness. The iconic "Artichoke" (or Pine Cone) pendant stands out for its quality lighting. Inspired by nature, the lampshade consists of several rows of overlapping leaves: 72 leaves in total mounted on 12 chrome-plated steel arches. The leaves serve as light reflectors: their positioning has been designed to allow for a lighting that is both intense and direct while stopping the light from being glaring. Depending on the viewing angle, Artichoke offers a different light effect which highlights the aesthetics of the model. The brushed brass leaves form a geometric airy shape around the light source which they completely hide. All the PH Artichoke ceiling lights come with a unique engraved identification number and a certificate. You can register the light with its identification number on the Louis Poulsen website. Furthermore, this version is a special edition for the 125th anniversary of this light: it includes the designer's engraved signature and the anniversary date of the product (engravings on the 3rd row of leaves from the top)."
