Get the ball rolling with an ingenious kit to create a marble run with zig zag and spiral tracks. Set it in perpetual motion with a motor and watch the marbles as they travel. Known as ‘Rolling Ball Sculptures’, marble runs are actually a miniature form of kinetic art, with sculptors such as George Rhoads (b.1926) and Bruce Gray (b.1955) making largescale sculptures that are often featured as public artworks, as with Rhoads’ ‘42nd Street Ballroom’ sculpture with is sited in the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan.
