Stylised gift wrap designs recalling the popularity of penguin motifs in the 1910s and 20s created by the national excitement surrounding the ‘Heroic’ age of polar exploration, including Scott’s ‘Terra Nova’ and Shackleton’s ‘Endurance’ and ‘Quest’ expeditions to the Antarctic. Echoing the bold, linear style of earlier Art Deco prints, 1940s1950s designs by popular illustrators Esme Eve, Rosamund Martin and G. Rees combine to create a festive frozen scene.
