Description
The Alarik's red pattern was designed in celebration of the beautiful textiles of Barbro Nilsson. To make each rug, yarn is first turned by hand on a wheel, dipping it into a vat of dye that gives it its colour, then it is hung to dry in the sun, giving every single thread individual characteristics. Neutral-coloured yarn is then pulled tight vertically on a loom and different coloured threads are intricately woven horizontally into a pattern by hand. This type of kilim weave requires a huge amount of skill, passed down through families from generation to generation, and is an intricate, artisanal process that results in each rug being utterly unique. Kilims have been used for millennia to bring warmth, decoration and communication through their colourful symbolic motifs, differing from other styles of rug due to their flat, tapestry-like texture.
