Description
Ritzenhoff The Scots and Irish are still debating who invented whisky even until today. What is certain is that Christian missionaries first brought the centuries old art of distillery to the Celts. Instead of perfume and medicine, they used it to produce alcohol. It was also used as medicine — the original Gaelic name "uisge beatha"" means ""water of life"" in translation, and was shortened to ""whisky"" by the English. The new medicine was very popular and new private distilleries were set up everywhere. While in Ireland barley and oat were used as the main ingredients, the Scots used almost any grain. However, unlike the Irish, they used peat instead of coal to heat their ovens which still gives Scotch Whisky its distinctive smokey flavour today. The Celts drank their Whisky from a ""quaich"", a flat drinking bowl with two handles. This was carved from wood or horn, while particularly precious pieces were made from silver. With Next Whisky, Sieger Design has reinterpreted the classic whisky tumbler. Its large body allows the aroma to develop perfectly, while it stays protected by a tapered opening. The solid base shields cool drinks from warm hands."
