Description
Nemo Floor lamp Black Metal. Dimensions: H 203 cm - Base: Ø 45.5 cm - Cable: L 350 cm. Conceptual, radical, funny and absurd, the Newton floor lamp sits on the border between design and contemporary art. At a time when the eighties aesthetic is making a comeback, Milanese design house Nemo is bringing out Andrea Branzi's Newton lamp, a real self-evident object with its apple held in balance. A major figure in the history of architecture and design, Andrea Branzi is one of the main representatives of the Italian radical movement. A founding member of the Archizoom group in 1966, from the end of the 1960s, he joined forces with experimental industrial design studios (Alchimia then Memphis). Andrea Branzi has always worked to free design from its modern shackles: from a discipline oriented towards production and rationality, he helped create a field of total freedom of expression, thus opening the way to the multiplicity of forms that design today assumes. Throughout his career, he expresses in his work a sensitive reading of the changing world. This reflects his very anticipatory vision of current society, its transformations, its new codes. For Branzi, design is not confined to the sole domain of furniture or industrial technology, but questions, beyond objects, the relationship man has with his environment. In 1987, Andrea Branzi was awarded the Compas d’or for Lifetime Achievement. Andrea Branzi’s projects are regularly exhibited around the world, such as at the Fondation Cartier (Paris) in 2008. The Newton floor lamp is a playful nod to the anecdote of the apple that fell on Newton's head, revealing to him the laws of universal gravitation. It consists of a metal structure. The stand contains in its upper part a high-performance LED light source. The base is surmounted by the arc of a circle in which is inserted a white aluminium reflector disc with holes in its centre. This reflector disc tilts to orient the light beam, illuminating the suspended apple in a mixture of direct and diffused light. The apple is made of synthetic material (apple included). Andrea Branzi: "A first prototype of the Newton floor lamp was produced in 2002, in homage to the discoverer of universal gravitation. After seventeen years, this light is now back in production with Nemo. This is not the first time that my projects have been appreciated after many years.''
