Museum Selection Membland Sundress
Description
Recalling the vivid glazes and carnation motifs of William De Morgan"s (18391917) tiles. Strongly influenced by Persian and Iznik motifs, De Morgan designed tiles for Morris & Co. in the 1860s and 70s; one of his finest tile panels was commissioned for Membland Hall near Plymouth c.1876, which featured blue flowers scrolling amidst green foliage. Recalling the pattern, a sundress with a generous, flaring shape; the bodice is biascut and has some natural stretch.
