WH Fox Talbot, British photography pioneer by Anonymous. WH Fox Talbot, British photography pioneer, 1901. William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877) is best known for his development of the calotype, an early photographic process that was an improvement over the daguerreotype of the French inventor Louis Daguerre. Talbot's calotypes involved the use of a photographic negative, from which multiple prints could be made. Had his method been announced a few weeks earlier, he and not Daguerre would probably be remembered as the founder of photography. Photo published in The Process Year Book, by AW Penrose & Co, London, 1901. Produced on 280gsm fine art paper designed for museum-quality reproductions. The paper has a gently textured matt surface making it especially well suited for giclée reproductions of art prints and paintings.
