Description
Sea Serpents, sometimes known as Sea Serpents and originally titled Serpents de Mer was painted by Gustav Klimt in 1904. It is an excellent example of the Serpents de Mer series, which made extensive use of the female form made it sinuous and flowing. Here, Klimt makes the women into mysterious, mermaid-like creatures. The sense of movement is dramatic, as they seem to be gliding through a sea of abstract lines, geometrical shapes and unusual colours. Klimt is noted for his highly detailed female subjects, and Sea Serpents is a good example, using realistic figures in a very abstract way perfect for living room wall décor.
