In this listing we are very pleased to offer a fairly large & heavy glass pendant lamp by Glashtte Limburg. Rare new old stock It is like travelling back in time: walking into a lamp shop somewhere in the 1970s & seeing this lamp. It comes from the back stock of a recently closed lamp shop. We offer exactly the same lamp in satin white in our other listings (if not sold). Would be nice together above a very large dining or work table. The white one in our other listings is not new old stock (hence the price difference) but used but nevertheless in an attractive condition. The orange color is very pretty, somewhere between poppy & lava orange & is equally beautiful on & of. Stunning mouth blown piece of incredibly thick (and hence also heavy) glass. At its thickest point the glass reaches 5 millimeters. Interestingly enough the thickness of the glass various from side to side, adding to the charm of the lamp & proving this was a mouth blown piece. The suspension system is fixed to the glass with three pins, a system that was first cornered by the Venetian glass manufacturers a few decades earlier. The lamp is marked on top of white metal disc of the suspension system & one the side of this disc is the original sticker label. The lamp is complete with the original wiring & ceiling canopy. Apart from plugging it in to picture it light up, we have not touched it. About Glashtte Limburg Glashtte Limburg was founded in 1947 & still exist as a (glass) lighting manufacturer although since recently it is part of the equally German Bega group. The company was a typical example of a company that rose on the German Wirtschafstwunder & became a known manufacturer of glass based interior lamps in the 1950s & 1960s It is even said that at a certain moment it was one of Europe's largest glass manufacturers. Glashtte Limburg worked with many different designers although not much has been known or recorded despite winning over 160 iF Design Awards. One notable cooperation that was noted was with Finnish designer Helena Tynell who created several amber bubble glass lamps for Limburg. Glashtte Limburg has been & is still known for the thickness & quality of its glass & modernistic designs. Often combining the glass with brass & other metals. Lamp takes one light bulb size E27 with screw-type fitting. Fitted with the original 124 centimeters / 48.82 inches lamp cord.
