Description
Fine English bone china coupe plate designed by artist Jane Lee McCracken, featuring her intricate black Biro drawing ‘Our Forefathers'. This is the first design of her ‘Amur Leopard' diptych and one of eight designs from her iconic print and china series ‘In Homage to the Last Great Carnivores of Eurasia'. It highlights threatened and endangered carnivores across the Eurasian continent. ‘Our Forefathers' contemplates the origins and repercussions of man's fascination with collecting natural exotica from early European exploration to the present day. This is symbolised by a representation of Rembrandt's ‘The Windmill' 1641, as the windmill becomes an exotic folly for three Amur leopards, one of the world's most endangered species. Jane's meticulous drawings take several months to research and make. A unique statement piece to display or as part of an elegant fine dining set, each plate design is a limited edition of 200.
