Description
In order to keep their movements surprising and maintain close radio communication with controllers, the RAF Police employed Minis to patrol the perimeter of airfields for a long period. The Mini's lengthy military life in this capacity lasted from shortly after its introduction in 1959 until the early 1980s, and they were referred to by the RAF Mechanical Transport Division as LMVs, or Light Military Vehicles. Although Minis operated in this duty from the early 1970s were painted Olive Drab green with a yellow stripe, Minis were originally bought in RAF blue directly from BMC. The RAF Mini Club, keepers of the Mini's RAF heritage, was quite helpful when determining the livery for this particular model. Because of its quick performance, fluid handling, and outstanding traction, the Mini was perfect for this duty. Both then and now, the RAF Police play a crucial and varied role in defending bases and aircraft against dangers like terrorism, organised crime, espionage, and sabotage. They were established on April 1st, 1918, when the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service were combined to become the RAF. The RAFP had 500 officers and 20, 000 NCOs by the end of World War II. The RAF Provost Branch was elevated to the status of a Specialist Branch in January 1947, and in December 1950, George VI approved the crest and motto 'Fiat Justitia,' which translates to 'Let justice be done' and is still in use today.
